Get Shit Done
We hear an awful lot about the “Entrepreneurial Spirit”. What does that mean? what does someone mean when they say they are Entrepreneurial?
Does it mean they prefer to run a business that might not make payroll next week? Does it mean they have something against having health insurance?
No. It means two key things:
1- Creation of new things. Breaking of the molds and boundaries.
2- (And this is the one we are focusing on today) They GET SHIT DONE.
Entrepreneurs can’t afford to sit and think about all of the reasons not to do things. They don’t say, “That’s not my job.” No one in an entrepreneurial company can. Stuff has just got to get done. You do it. You don’t overcomplicate it, and form a committee to discuss it. YOU DO IT and then you take a step back, look at your duck-tape and bailing wire prototype and see what changes need to be made to take it to the next level.
How sad that fear of failure chases this from so many of us. We take too long, and spend too much to make sure everything is done right.
Now, don’t get me wrong… Too many entrepreneurial companies don’t have the ability to take this successful proof of concept, and take it to the next level, and start to make it industrial strength. But we need to be able to do that, while still not losing the ability to create the next cool proof of concept quickly and without barriers.
My advice to you and to me as well): Have an entrepreneurial Tiger Team in your company that can do this. Look at yourself as well, and those around you and ask, “Am I making this more difficult than it needs to be? Am I inventing barriers by complaining about others not getting their part done? Can I move ahead with this anyway??”
Basically… Stop whining. Get shit done.
